A very common problem in the Mark VIII series has been the Door Ajar warning on the System Information Computer. This can be an intermitent problem and will cause the system not to show information such as milage, compass, and so forth. The most common cause of this is a bad ground at the door latch that is used to send a signal that the door is closed. To remedy this problem get a can of WD40 and apply a liberal amount to the door latch (or just soak it). This may sound odd not being a button or switch, but this really does work. If need be grab a screw driver and work the latch while holding the door release handle in the open position. This has fixed the problem on countless Mark VIII's.
