Mine went out. I could hear the motor but the window just did a little shake. If I helped it, it would move.
Buy this part:
D0AZ-62234A24-B (Window gear kit)
Take both units apart and replace only the three poly bushings that have degraded in the old unit. They will go in, it just takes patients.

Description of problem:
It started with an intermitent clunking up and down movement, then,
I could push the button, hear the motor running and move the glass up and down with my hand... Manual window with partial assist. I asked the opinion of a few freinds and most said that I only needed a rebuild kit, so off I went to Ford for a rebuild kit. The first place told me there is not one for the Mark VIII and that I would have to replace the whole motor/gear unit... No thanks... The second place (biggest Ford parts dealer in Houston) told me that was true, BUT I could buy the standard one and just use choice parts out of it after disassembling it. I agreed and bought the parts.

You have to remove the door panel and the plastic cover... (I glued mine back on...) Then remove three screws and the assembly comes out. (This is all on my memory, I did this a few months ago) Disassemble the units and replace the plastic bushings. When you put the motor back in, line up the holes with something to help... I put a coat hanger in one hole and then the screws back in the others.
My driver side still rolls up and down "slower" than the passenger side, but hardly noticable.
